The Amateur Athletic Union and the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI) have come together as NCSI is now the authorized provider for AAU’s national screening program. NCSI is the Gold Standard in background screening programs for youth-serving sport organizations.
New this year, NCSI will administer background screenings for all AAU non-athlete memberships. Coaches and volunteers who sign up for a non-athlete membership will receive an email from NCSI to fill out for the background screening process to begin.
After purchasing an AAU membership, members will receive an email from support@ncsisafe.com. Simply complete and submit the application, and NCSI will begin processing your screening. AAU non-athlete memberships will not be accepted without the completion of the background screening.
Once a membership is accepted, coaches and volunteers will receive an email with their AAU membership ID. If you have any questions about the AAU membership and background screening process, check out the frequently asked questions – click here.
The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sports. During its early years, the AAU served as a leader in international sport representing the U.S. in the international sports federations. The AAU worked closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic Games. After the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the AAU has focused its efforts into providing sports programs for all participants of all ages beginning at the grass roots level. The philosophy of "Sports for All, Forever," is shared by nearly 800,000 participants and over 150,000 volunteers.
