DES MOINES, Iowa (Dec. 1, 2023) -- Longtime AAU Volunteer Marv Allen is being honored by being inducted into the Iowa Association of Track Officials Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held Saturday, December 2, and Allen is one of three members for the Class of 2023.
Allen is known by many as the Iowa AAU Track and Field District Sports Director, and he’s also a member of the Track and Field Executive Committee. In 2006, Allen was named Outstanding AAU District Volunteer for his contributions to AAU Track and Field. In 2009, he was the recipient of the Col. William Tooke Memorial Award which honors an individual who has served and provided outstanding service to AAU Youth Athletics. On top of the aforementioned awards and countless years of service, Allen received the AAU President’s National Leadership Award in 2021.
AAU would like to congratulate Marv Allen on his induction into the IATO Hall of Fame and thank him for his many years of service to the AAU and to supporting youth track and field.
The AAU was founded in 1888 to establish standards and uniformity in amateur sports. During its early years, the AAU served as a leader in international sport representing the U.S. in the international sports federations. The AAU worked closely with the Olympic movement to prepare athletes for the Olympic Games. After the Amateur Sports Act of 1978, the AAU has focused its efforts into providing sports programs for all participants of all ages beginning at the grass roots level. The philosophy of "Sports for All, Forever," is shared by nearly 800,000 participants and over 150,000 volunteers.
