NEW YORK CITY - Chess NYC has been entrusted with its stewardship as the Amateur Athletic Union’s (AAU) official chess partner. Both organizations now prepare themselves for the exciting launch of online competition beginning on May 25th at aauchess.org!
“Chess has long been known as one of the most strategic, most competitive sports in the world. Adding chess to the Amateur Athletic Union’s roster of sports is an important move for the development of the game in the scholastic world,” said Joe Armenio, Director of AAU Cares, “And we could not be happier to be joining forces with Chess NYC, who have long been known for their modern, forward thinking approach to the timeless game, as our official chess partner.”
Chess NYC has also announced the assignment of its long-running USCF-rated format, Play N Go Select, to AAU Chess Inc. The Play N’ Go series of tournaments has been running successfully for over a decade and has long been renowned as one of New York City’s top venues for competitive, scholastic chess play.
"We will continue to participate and contribute to Play N Go Events, but AAU, the #1 source for all Scholastic Sports in the United States and beyond, will provide the might to expand exponentially, and that was an opportunity that we could not pass up on" said Michael Propper, President of Chess NYC.
"Chess NYC will continue to provide programs throughout New York City," he continued, "After all, we are New York City Chess", but we will fully support AAU Chess Play N Go's stress-free style and the spirit of wholesome fun, excellence, and rewarding scholastic competition that we share.
Beyond accreditation, AAU Chess is now bringing the time-tested Play N’ Go format to the digital stage. AAU Chess is now gathering and embracing its many schools, affiliates, and partners as well as any new interested parties to join for the launch event of its brand-new state of the art online chess platform AAUChess.org on May 25th, with even more chess programs and events to come.
“We can’t emphasize the impact of the online platform enough," added Armenio, “This could very well be the future of chess”
You must be an AAU member to compete on AAUChess.org. We are excited to grow the sport and have new members to the chess community.
