Gavin, a young athlete with autism, has inspired audiences all week with his determination, poise, and love for the sport. His story has become one of the most celebrated and meaningful narratives of this year’s event.
Lewis Fellinger, National Aquatics Chair for AAU, reflected on the significance of the day’s performances:
“Every day here in Riverside has been a celebration of talent, resilience, and community. Our athletes continue to raise the bar—not just in skill, but in character. Watching young people like Gavin Sprintz thrive on this national stage is a reminder of why we do this work. This is more than a championship—it’s a movement that embodies the very best of sport.”
The AAU Diving National Championships run through July 22, with additional individual and synchronized events still to come.
