The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is now accepting nominations for the 95th AAU James E. Sullivan Award. This prestigious award has been presented annually since 1930 to the most outstanding athlete at the collegiate, Olympic, or other similar elite level in the United States. We are looking for outstanding athletes – in any sport – who achieved great success on the national or international stage during 2024. (2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons also apply)
In addition to athletic excellence, the AAU James E. Sullivan award aims to recognize the qualities of leadership, citizenship, character and sportsmanship on and off the playing surface.
To nominate an athlete for the 95th AAU Sullivan Award:
Nominations close Tuesday, February 4.
Last year, Iowa basketball star Caitlin Clark became the first ever two-time winner of the award. Other prior winners of this historic award include Carl Lewis (track and field), Michael Phelps (swimming), Breanna Stewart (basketball), Shawn Johnson (gymnastics), Peyton Manning (football), Kyle Snyder (wrestling), Michelle Kwan (figure skating), and Carissa Moore (surfing).
Voting for the award will open in February. Finalists will attend a ceremony at the New York Athletic Club on April 15, 2025.
