VIRGINIA BEACH, Vir. (2022) – AAU Track and Field ran through the finish line on their indoor season this past weekend with the 2022 AAU Indoor Track and Field National Championships presented by NOVEC and Team IP. 2,100 athletes representing 33 states raced to Virginia Beach, Virginia with high hopes of taking home some gold.

The three-day tournament saw 219 teams and 134 unattached athletes take to the track at the Virginia Beach Sports Center over the weekend. Girls and boys from 5 years old to 18 years old participated across 17 track and field events. The top 8 finishers in individual and relay events walked away with National Championships.

“I am excited about the success of this year’s meet,” said Charles ‘Coach O’ Oliver, AAU Track and Field National Chair. “We had some of the most competitive events that we have had in years.”

The hard work of each athlete was on full display this weekend, including two AAU Indoor National meet records being broken. The 13-14 Boys 4x200 record was set in 2019 by the Metro Eagles T & F team with a time of 1:38.93. That record was broken this weekend by two teams. The Ginn Elite Track and Field team from Ohio beat the record with a time of 1:37.28. That record only stood for a short time as Compton Electric Speed team out of California recorded a time of 1:37.14. These two teams did not stop with just one record, as both teams took the record for the 13-14 Boys 4x400 race, previously set by Metro Eagles T & F in 2019 with a time of 3:43.74. Ginn Elite beat that record with a time of 3:41.94. Compton Electric Speed changed the record books once again with a time of 3:37.88.

“Our attendance were near record numbers,” Coach O added. “This is especially rewarding and is in line with our core belief that we are a developmental program for the sport of Track & Field.”
