RECAP: AAU Unrestricted Tackle Football National Championship

The 2020 fall season of AAU football capped off with the 2020 AAU Unrestricted Football National Championships out in New Braunfels, Texas. The two-day tournament kicked off on Saturday, January 9 with Championship Sunday on January 10.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - The 2020 fall season of AAU football capped off with the 2020 AAU Unrestricted Football National Championships out in New Braunfels, Texas. The two-day tournament kicked off on Saturday, January 9 with Championship Sunday on January 10.
AAU Football definitely saw some of its miracle moments that weekend, including playing in snow on Sunday! The central Texas town saw snow flurries and several inches of snow fall as temperatures stayed chilly throughout the weekend.
Last year the event drew 21 teams across the south and east part of the States. For 2020, the tournament totaled 39 registered teams. Approximately 1,200 athletes competed in five different age divisions, including 6U (Flag), 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U.
In the 6U Flag Football division, the CTX Bears won the championship routing the Mesquite Mustangs 6-0. The Bears also were undefeated in their bracket, pulling a 4-0 record.
For the 8U Tackle Football Championship, the CTX CPK Militia blacked the San Antonio Jr. Thunderbirds, 13-0. The Militia also swept the completion going 5-0 on the weekend.
The 10U Killeen Cove Chiefs took home the gold after beating the Waco TX Southern Panthers, 13-6. The Chiefs went 5-0 for the tournament.
In 12U division, a three-point split determined the win in the Killeen Cove Chiefs 23-20 win over the North Texas Bills. The Chiefs were undefeated in the tournament.
The 14U Championship was a battle until the last second, as the Houston Texas Warpath squeaked by with a 13-12 win over the North Texas Cowboys. The Warpath took home the trophy after a 4-1 record for the weekend.
