Strong Showing From TMSC Swimmers at AAU Junior Olympic Games

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - Ocala’s newly formed swim club, the TMSC Breakers, competed in its first official meet last week, sending 14 swimmers to the AAU Junior Olympic Games Championships and the Sunshine State Games in Cocoa Beach.
The Amateur Athletic Union and the Sunshine State Games opted to team up this year, holding both events at the same time. The swimming portion of the events lasted three days, from July 30 through August 1, and featured more than 200 swimmers from around the state and from as far away as Oklahoma.
Leading the way for individual swimmers was TMSC’s own Jeff Wolfe who won eight of his nine events and took second in the other to earn 177 points, making him the Sunshine State Champion and AAU Jr. Olympic Games Champion in the Boys 13-14 age group.
His events were the 100 yard Free (49.8, 1st), 50 Back (26.34, 1st), 200 IM (2:08.94, 1st), 200 Free (1:51.58, 1st), 25 Back (12.19, 1st), 50 Butterfly (24.63, 1st), 100 Back (55.38, 1st), 100 IM 58.13, 1st) and the 50 free (23.28, 2nd).
Andrew Wolfe earned Sunshine State Champion recognition in the Boys 9-10 age group, scoring 129 points and taking first in the 200 Free (3:04.48), third in the 100 Free (1.27.16), 50 Back (45.71), 25 Back (21.94) and 100 IM (1:48.58), and fourth in the 25 Free (17.21), 25 Breaststroke (24.15) and 50 Free (39.28).
Chase Moffett added 86 points in the 15+ group with top 8 finishes in the 50 Breaststroke (31.15, 4th), 25 Butterfly (11.13, 4th), 50 Free (22.99, 5th), 100 IM (59.45, 7th) and the 25 Breaststroke (13.29, 3rd).
Jacob Dempsey took seventh in the 100 Breaststroke (1:10.20) while William Ehler, Josh Labasbas and Brendan Held (personal bests in all events) rounded out the rest of the boys.
For the Girls, Julianna Wolfe scored 150 points to be named Sunshine State Champion in the Girls 8U age group, taking first place in the 50 Breaststroke (54.00) and the 25 Breaststroke (23.99). She also competed in the 100 Free (1:31.50, 2nd), 25 Free (18.47, 2nd), 50 Free (42.29, 2nd), 25 Back (21.61, 3rd) and the 50 Butterfly (57.07, 3rd).
Katie Wolfe scored 123 points in the 11-12 age group with a first place finish in the 25 Back (17.53), third in both the 25 Butterfly (15.84) and 50 Back (37.71), fourth in the 50 Breaststroke (40.06) and 25 Breaststroke (17.72), fifth in the 25 Free (14.02) and sixth in the 100 Breaststroke (1:30.82 ).
Abigail Wolfe scored 120 points in the 15+ events placing second in the 200 Free (2:04.94), third in both the 200 IM (2:21.02) and 100 Butterfly (1:03.27 ), fifth in the 100 Free (56.99) and 25 Butterfly (12.66 ), sixth in the 25 Free (12.19) and seventh in the 50 Free (26.59) and 100 IM (1:09.37).
Rounding out the girls swimmers were Hannah Kennedy (3rd in the 25 Breaststroke), Jordan Simpson, Jaelynn Munger and Maria Martin.
Overall, the Rockets placed first, scoring 6,397 points with 91 swimmers, while Team Arkansas took second with 2,742 points and 42 swimmers and Radiant Aquatics placed third with 1,196 points and 21 swimmers.
The Breakers came in sixth, scoring 898 points with 14 swimmers.
“All in all for us, it was a successful meet,” said TMSC coach Tarn Thompson. “I couldn’t have been happier as a coach, and really at the sportsmanship showed throughout. It’s been hard with all of the inconsistency and the lack of regiment [due to COVID-19], so to come together and do that was great.”
Up next, the Breakers plan to take some time to settle in and prepare for the upcoming Fall and high school seasons. They eagerly await their next meet and hope to be back in the water soon.
