Orlando, FL. (March 20, 2025) – The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and Girls Inc. announce a new collaboration to enhance each organization’s mission. It will focus on the exchange of resources and sports programming opportunities geared towards young girls.
Girls Inc. will gain further access to sports-related resources and sports programming through working with AAU. Research from the Women’s Sports Foundation shows that girls who participate in sports are more likely to exhibit skills that are critical to success and the workplace, including leadership, teamwork, and goal setting.
“We are thrilled to announce our Network-wide partnership with the Amateur Athletic Union," said Lisa Ghartey Ogundimu, Girls Inc. Chief Operating Officer. "By working together across communities, many more girls will benefit from more sports offerings that will not only enhance their physical and mental well-being but will also help them develop valuable life skills. This relationship is a win-win for all."
The AAU will gain access to educational resources and training that Girls Inc. offers to its members as well as work jointly to promote awareness of AAU sports to Girls Inc.
“Working with Girls Inc. allows the AAU to expand our reach in support of young girls across the country,” said Jo Mirza, AAU President. “We are deeply committed to continuing to create opportunities for all our athletes on and off the playing surface and are excited to offer additional resources for youth athletes.”
The collaboration between both parties stemmed from strong local relationships through Girls Inc. Affiliates. Girls Inc. of Long Island and Girls Inc. of Sarasota have been the first to leverage the relationship with AAU to enhance sports opportunities for girls in their communities. Both organizations have been working to create new avenues for youth girls to engage in local sports opportunities.
"We are excited to take this step in our partnership with the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU)," said Angie Stringer, President/CEO at Girls Inc. of Sarasota County. “We know that working with the AAU will add another positive layer to the comprehensive programs that we currently offer.”
Girls Inc. aligns with AAU’s commitment to developing the complete, well-rounded athlete, on and off the playing surface. This partnership allows an increase in educational resources for both parties and provides young girls with strong role models in sports.
The extension of this collaboration will allow for greater access not only to sports programming and events, but also to volunteers and access to leaders in the sports world who will help guide them into the future.
“Beyond the game, these opportunities will help girls develop essential skills that will support their academic success and future professional development,” said Renee Flagler, Executive Director of Girls Inc. of Long Island. “Together, we are helping girls build confidence, unlock their potential, and thrive in every aspect of their lives.”
We are excited to work with Girls Inc. as we continue to provide new opportunities for athletes and girls.
