BROOKLYN, N.Y. (March 19, 2025) – In February of this year, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) announced that Jerome “Junkyard Dog” Williams was appointed as an AAU Sports Ambassador, and Williams quickly got to work. Williams, on behalf of the AAU, teamed up with JPMorgan Chase and the New York Knicks to host the latest stop on the Shooting For Peace tour.
Shooting For Peace is a financial literacy workshop that feature discussions with professional athletes, full learning workshops, and a celebrity basketball game. Jerome Williams was joined by former Harlem Globetrotter, Eric “Broadway” Jones to give important lessons to the students of the High School of Global Citizenship about building generational wealth.
“As the Global Sports Ambassador for the AAU, it’s truly remarkable to connect with youth all over the world,” said Jerome Williams, AAU Sports Ambassador. “Being back in New York and partnering with my former team to uplift the youth in Brooklyn was a real treat. AAU has really broadened the landscape by having me visit schools alongside my charitable partnership with JPMorgan Chase to deliver these programs.”
Every student received a copy of Jerome Williams’ book, R.O.L.E. Player, as well as the financial literacy digital education. The book is all about passing on wisdom through life lessons and strategies on success, encouraging readers to maximize opportunities in life by embracing the “Junkyard Dog Mentality.” These assets will be available to the entire Brooklyn school district of 400-plus schools.
The New York and Las Vegas chapters of the National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA) were represented during the ask-the-pro sessions, where students could gain more insight on how to build strategies for life both on and off the basketball court. Students also had the opportunity to play against the NBA star as Jerome Williams teamed up with the teachers to take on the students.
This Shooting for the Peace event in Brooklyn was the third stop of the tour that has financial lessons in Baltimore and San Francisco previously. The next stop on the tour will be for students in Chicago followed by Washington D.C. and Las Vegas.
