BALTIMORE (March 24, 2025) – Baltimore’s basketball community is grieving the loss of Carlton Carrington Sr., a revered figure in Maryland District AAU Boys' Basketball and father of Washington Wizards first-round pick, Carlton "Bub" Carrington. He passed away on Thursday, March 20.
Carrington Sr. was more than a coach — he was a mentor, leader, and father figure to countless young athletes. As Director and Coach of the Baltimore Elite AAU program, he helped shape the careers and lives of players such as Will Barton, Donte Greene, Jamel Artis, and Malcolm Delaney, many of whom went on to achieve professional success.
Tributes poured in from former players and community members, reflecting the deep impact Carrington had on and off the court.
Professional players like Sean Mosley and Donte Green posted on social media recalling some of the good memories and mentioned just how much they appreciated coach Bub. The Washington Wizards official statement stated how Big Bub was the heart and soul of their family. He was a pillar in the community as someone who dedicated his life to serving others.
“Bub Sr. was an invaluable part of our basketball program,” said Maryland District AAU Governor Ben DuBose. "He stood tall as a pillar in our community, dedicating his life to uplifting and guiding others. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.”
The MD District AAU family and all of AAU Basketball extends our heartfelt condolences to the Carrington family during this difficult time.
