ORLANDO, Fla. -
AAU Track and Field, one of the nation’s largest youth track and field event organizers, has helped young athletes reach their dreams since the
Amateur Athletic Union’s (AAU) infancy in 1888. The AAU has strived to help develop our youth, as well as our coaches, both on and off the playing surface.
AAU Track and Field most recently partnered with
U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), a non-profit professional organization representing thousands of cross country and track & field coaches of all levels. This affiliation gives AAU the opportunity to participate in USTFCCCA programs such as
The Track & Field Academy.
“I am extremely excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for the members of AAU. Not only will we be able to avail ourselves to the wealth of knowledge of the coaching community, but the opportunity for personal growth and interaction is tremendous,” stated AAU Track & Field National Chair, Charles Oliver. “AAUTF is a track and field developmental program and for us to be able to have personal interaction and to gleam knowledge from the best coaches in the world is a tremendous asset for us and the youth involved in our program.”
The Track & Field Academy is an educational and certification program designed to provide professional development opportunities for Track and Field and Cross Country coaches at all levels of the sport. The mission of the Track & Field Academy is to improve the quality of coaching, increase professional opportunities for coaches, and improve the sports of Track and Field and Cross Country by delivering to coaches educational experiences and certification opportunities covering the technical, managerial, and philosophical aspects of the profession.
“We are thrilled to have an organization like the AAU, who does such an outstanding job of providing opportunities for young boys and girls in the sports of track & field and cross country partner with the USTFCCCA,” said Sam Seemes, CEO of the USTFCCCA. “It’s exciting for the USTFCCCA to be able to provide access to a number of educational opportunities so that AAU coaches can further build upon their knowledge of track & field and cross country in their continued efforts to serve youth athletes.”
The Track & Field Academy accomplishes this mission by offering coaches an organized program of instruction comprised of symposiums, courses, certifications and endorsements, containing diverse offerings addressing all levels and areas of the sport. Courses range from broad-based instruction to highly specific and technical in scope. The Academy’s structure provides rigorous routes to certifications, but also unstructured opportunities for professional improvement. The Track and Field Academy’s mission includes not only educational opportunities in technical coaching, but also learning experiences in program management issues such as academic monitoring, roster management, meet management, equipment, purchasing, budgeting and many more. The program offers many opportunities for continuing education without the need to exit the program once certifications are achieved.
