AAU Alumni, Cole Hutson, led the way for USA Hockey to capture gold at the IIHF World Junior Championships.

On January 5, Team USA went into an overtime thriller for the gold medal against Finland. Team USA put the puck in the net for a 4-3 victory over Finland on Sunday evening, giving the United States a second consecutive World Junior gold medal victory. One of the top players during the entire championship was Cole Hutson.

The defenseman was the team’s leading point-getter with 11, the first time a defenseman has ever led the World Juniors in points. Hutson added two points during the gold medal game. His efforts earned him tournament honors as he was named to the Media Team All-Stars.

Before he was capturing gold, Hutson was earning ice time in AAU Hockey tournaments. The Illinois native competed in AAU’s CUHL Mite’s league when he was 8 years old.
