BALTIMORE, MD, (December 12, 2024) – The Maryland District AAU rolled out the red carpet on November 10, 2024, at the stunning Martin's West Banquet Hall in Baltimore for its Annual Awards Banquet, an unforgettable evening honoring the dedication and achievements of its outstanding members.
With over 500 attendees, including more than 300 talented athletes, their families, dedicated coaches, selfless volunteers, and AAU staff, the event was a vibrant celebration of a year filled with hard work and remarkable accomplishments.
The evening began on a patriotic note with a heartfelt tribute to U.S. Veterans, setting a tone of gratitude and honor. Special guest David Heredia, the State Commander for the American Legion Department of Maryland, delivered stirring remarks that resonated with the crowd. Adding to the excitement, former Harlem Globetrotter Charles "Choo" Smith electrified the room with a motivational speech that left the young athletes inspired and ready to conquer new challenges.
"We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate our incredible AAU athletes once again this year," said Ben DuBose, Maryland District AAU Governor. "The energy in the Grand Ballroom is electric, and it's amazing to see the awe and pride in the faces of these young athletes as they step up to receive their awards. It’s moments like these that make everything worthwhile."
Maryland District offers a dynamic range of sports programs, including basketball, football, swimming, taekwondo, track & field, volleyball, wrestling, jump rope, and more. This year’s banquet celebrated not only the athletes but also the invaluable contributions of coaches, volunteers, and staff.
