AAU President, Jo Mirza, Named 2023 SPORTYS Finalist

President Mirza is a finalist for Executive of the Year
Orlando, Fla. (May 5, 2023) — The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is proud to announce that President Jo Mirza is a finalist for Executive of the Year in the 2023 SPORTYS: Greater Orlando’s Night of Champions presented by Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute.
The SPORTYS awards are run by the Greater Orlando Sports Commission (GO Sports) and honor sports business professionals whose contributions and impact are vital in making Greater Orlando one of the country’s premier sports destinations.
AAU, under the leadership of President Mirza, runs many events that contribute to the growth of the Greater Orlando area by bringing in thousands of teams, athletes, coaches and parents from across the United States and internationally to Orlando each year. One of the most notable events is the AAU Junior National Volleyball Championships, one of the largest volleyball tournaments in the world. In 2022, that event alone brought an estimated economic impact of $228 million to the region.
President Mirza, who has dedicated more than five decades of service to the AAU at the local, national, and international levels, strongly believes in working with local tourism partners, such as GO Sports, Visit Orlando, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and the Orange County Convention Center to host incredible events for youth in Orlando, the country’s largest travel and tourism destination city.
“I’m honored and humbled to be named an Executive of the Year finalist for the 2023 SPORTYS,” said President Mirza. “I look forward to continuing to build lasting relationships in the Greater Orlando community and to host world-class events in our wonderful destination.”
President Mirza is one of 13 Executive of the Year finalists for the 2023 SPORTYS, alongside executives from Orlando City SC, Orlando Magic, UCF Athletics, and more.
The SPORTYS award show will air on WKMG-TV News 6 and stream online on Saturday, June 17 at 7 p.m. with the winners being revealed during the broadcast.
