HONOLULU, HI (February 3, 2023) -- The 2023 World Surf League (WSL) season started this week. As five-time WSL champion Carissa Moore aims for a sixth world title, take a look back at when she won the prestigious 92nd AAU James E. Sullivan award in a December 2022 ceremony in Hawaii.
Moore beat out fellow deserving finalists Jocelyn Alo (softball), Jordan Burroughs (wrestling), Ivan Melendez (baseball) and Bryce Young (football) to become the first-ever surfer to win the AAU Sullivan Award.

The AAU James E. Sullivan Award has been presented annually since 1930 to the most outstanding athlete at the collegiate or Olympic level in the United States.
