ORLANDO, Fla.(May 20, 2022) – The summer is about to heat up in Orlando, Florida as teams travel to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex for the 2022 AAU Basketball Memorial Day Classic. Boys and girls are ready to lace up and take the court with a chance to earn an AAU championship.
More than 320 teams will be making the trip to Orlando for the long weekend. Athletes from 8 and under up to 20 years old will come to compete. Teams have been divided into grade divisions and age-based divisions starting with 3rd grade up to 12th grade. There will be 10 divisions for the girls’ side, starting with 5th grade up to Varsity. Boys will be divided into 24 divisions based on age or grade.
Athletes from every region of the country will be in the gym with a chance to represent their state. Teams will be representing California, Illinois, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, and Wisconsin. Lake Worth Pride 2023, Thunder Supreme 2025, and Florida Fuego 5th Grade are a few teams coming back to defend their title from last year. For a full list of teams and the schedule, click here.
AAU medals and trophies will be awarded to first and second place teams. The top four finishers in each high school (15U/9th, 16U/10th, 17U/11th, 20U/12th) age/grade division will be receiving a seeding recognition into the 2022 AAU Boys & Girls Basketball World Championships.
All games will be held at the state of the art ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Athletes will fill all three gyms around the complex: The AdventHealth Arena (8 courts), the State Farm Field House (6 courts), and the Visa Athletic Center (6 courts). Games will tip off at 8:00 in the morning on Saturday, May 28. Pool play will take place Saturday and Sunday with all championship games happening on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30.
