Kingsport, Tenn. & Des Moines, Iowa (April 8, 2022) – Wrestlers went head-to-head over the weekend on the mat. The Elementary School Duals took place in Kingsport, Tennessee while the Middle School & Freshman/Sophomore Duals took place in West Des Moines, Iowa. Forty-five (45) teams total across the three school divisions stepped on the mat. But only a select few could walk away with championships.
 
MeadowView Marriott Convention Center played host for the AAU Elementary School Duals on April 8-10. Eleven (11) teams competed in round robin competition. Teams were comprised of 19 weight classes, from 40 pounds to 220 pounds. Iowa Black led the way with 760 total Team points. Tennessee Black also had an eventful weekend, leading all teams with 768 total Match points. When it came time for the championship, it was a tight contest between those two teams. Tennessee Black ended the weekend with a 10 win and 0 loss record and captured the first ever National Duals title for the team in the Elementary division. Tennessee Black took down the powerful Iowa Black, 42 to 36, to earn the championship. 
 
West Des Moines, Iowa and the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex was the home for the Middle School and Freshman/Sophomore National Duals. The 2022 AAU Lee Pamulak Middle School Nationals saw 18 teams go head-to-head with hopes of taking home gold. Teams had wrestlers in 20 weight classes, starting at 75 pounds and going to 250 pounds. By the time pool play was over, eight teams made their way into the Gold Bracket. Iowa Black and Missouri Avengers went at it for ultimate team supremacy in the championship match with Iowa Black coming out on top and taking home the Middle School National Duals title.  Iowa Black stood tall all weekend, capturing 8 Dual wins and leading the way with 756 total team points.
 
On the other mats with the older division, 16 teams battled in the Freshman/Sophomore Duals. Teams were made up of 15 weights, starting at 98 pounds and going to 285 pounds. Eight teams found the gold bracket after pool standings were decided. Iowa Black defeated South Dakota Rage while Nebraska Red took down Iowa Gold to find their way into the championship matchup. Once again, Iowa Black would pull out the win, 42 to 24, over Nebraska Red. Iowa Black ended the weekend with 709 total Match points over 8 Dual wins. It was a dominant weekend for Iowa Black across the board.
 
Thank you to everyone who participated over the weekend. There were so many incredible athletes and some very memorable moments. We are incredibly proud to see all of the accomplishments that are being made.
