Brother and Sister Leave Nothing on the Table at the 2022 AAU National Indoor Championship

Michael James, Jr. and Silease James, with the Dale City Lightning Track Club of Northern Virginia, each accomplished an amazing personal goal at the 2022 AAU National Indoor Championship (March 11-13, 2022) in Virginia Beach, Virginia
VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA (2022) -- AAU Track and Field has been bringing out the best in competitors for years. At the 2022 AAU Indoor Track and Field Championship, a common goal between a brother and sister pushed the siblings to new personal heights.
Michael James, Jr. and Silease James, with the Dale City Lightning Track Club of Northern Virginia, each accomplished an amazing personal goal. At the 2022 AAU National Indoor Championship (March 11-13, 2022) in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the siblings would stand out above the rest.
Michael began competing in shot put when he was 6 years old, and Silease began when she was 8 years old. They are 17 months apart and determined to both achieve greatness in a sport that seldom gets the love and attention it deserves. But the brother and sister duo are already bringing new viewers to the competition.
On March 12th, they both were feeling pretty good and ready to give it their all, but their coach and father, Michael James, Sr., emphasized the importance of staying humble and the consistent execution of what has been taught in practices and during drills. The hard work during this indoor season paid off.
Michael threw a personal record of 41 feet, 8.5 inches and achieved first place for the 12U boys division. Silease threw 28 feet, 11.5 inches and matched her brother with a first place of her own for the 11U girls division.
The brother and sister duo have never both won first place at the same time for the AAU Indoor National Championship, until now. They are committed to working hard in the outdoor season as well, to hopefully qualify for and medal at the 2022 AAU Junior Olympics in Greensboro, North Carolina.
