ORLANDO, Fla. (August 3, 2021) - The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Track and Field program in conjunction with Cerritos College announces the new AAU JR Elite Combined Event Clinic exclusively for multi-event athletes ages 10-18 and coaches in decathlon, heptathlon, pentathlon, and triathlon. Facilitated with some of the best combined event coaches and athletes in the country, the three-day camp will have in-depth instruction on a multitude of critical topics to be a successful multi-event athlete and coach, a hands-on learn-by-do training, and controlled competition.

"AAU Track and Field is excited to announce this new multi-event camp," said Charles "Coach O" Oliver, AAU Track and Field National Chair. "From the grassroots level up to the Olympics, we want all our athletes and coaches to have access to the very best in training and instruction. The camp experience at Cerritos College will provide the instruction and educational components athletes and coaches need to successfully compete in multi-events."

Along with athlete instruction, the AAU JR Elite Combined Event Clinic will also host a three-day coaches’ clinic. This will serve as a continuing education and professional development opportunity as well as provide mentorship on the most up-to-date techniques and contemporary tactics for multi-event coaches.

Coaches will have exclusive access to elite and collegiate coaches during their training. Ultimately, the goal is to develop a more robust coaching philosophy for developing multi-event athletes. All coaches, including parents of multi-event athletes, are welcome.

"The community of multi-event athletes and coaches is special to me and I am sure this program will cultivate the next generation of great American multi-event Athletes," said Chris Richardson, Cerritos College Track and Field and Cross Country Director, Team USA Coach. "The multi-event is one of the most rewarding events to compete in and my vision is that our multi athletes reach their full potential."

The mission of the camp is two-fold: to provide a means for better identification of emerging combined multi-event talent in the United States as well as to promote the coach, parent, and athlete support system necessary for successful athlete development overall. There will be thorough video analysis and documentation for development tracking, which will benefit the athlete’s growth and also encouraging potential collegiate recruiting.
