ORLANDO, Fla. – The AAU Boys and Girls World Championships are both nearly wrapped up but so far, several thousand young hoopers have already enjoyed playing on the big stage. This was the first year of AAU Basketball hosting a World Championship event, which opened up the tournament to even more international teams.

The event was split up by division with four different venues. For the most part, the boys played their AAU World Championship games in either Orlando or Rock Hill, South Carolina. The girls played some games in Orlando, and others in Minneapolis, Minn. with games still to be played in Franklin, Tenn. for the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Division starting on Sept. 4 to 7.

The AAU Basketball World Championships were another successful event held by the Amateur Athletic Union, despite the difficult summer conditions. Over 121 teams with an estimated total of 1,200 AAU athletes took part in the Boys World Championships while over 160 teams played in the Girls World Championships.
