Orlando, Fla.- Patricia Jean Mook and Josh Stamp were recognized as the two winners of the 2013 AAU High School Sullivan Award winners in a beautiful half-time ceremony at the AAU Super Showcase that was broadcast on ESPNU Thursday night. AAU Treasurer Ron Crawford introduced AAU President Henry Forrest to the stage to honor the two winners. Both Mook and Stamp were chosen out of 2300 applicants to each receive a $10,000 scholarship to the college of their choice. This Fall, Mook will be attending Emory University in Atlanta, GA and Stamp is traveling to Winchester, VA to attend Shenandoah University. Congratulations to Patricia and Josh on ALL their accomplishments, athletic and academic, and everyone here at the AAU looks forward to seeing what the future has in store for these individuals! Powerlifting for a Purpose
One of the most successful powerlifting athletes at the AAU Junior Olympic Games during the past few years has been Taylorville, Illinois teenager Karter Brachear. A 17-year-old junior at Taylorville High School, Karter began doing the powerlifts at age 12 to get stronger for football and wrestling, and he set seven Illinois state records in his first meet nine months later.
