RECAP: AAU Basketball National Championships & AAU Basketball Super Showcase

ORLANDO, Fla (July 31, 2017)- The AAU Basketball National Championships and AAU Basketball Super Showcase in Orlando, Fla have come to close after almost a month of intense competition.

These events welcomed over 20,000 athletes from across the country to Central Florida, including the ESPN Wide World of Sports at the Walt Disney World Resort. There were also other AAU Basketball Championship events taking place across the country as well.

The AAU Basketball National Championship featured a unique Skills Competition where individual athletes could measure their basketball skills against other participants.

The competition and exposure that the 16U, 17U AAU Basketball National Championships and AAU Basketball Super Showcase bring are second to none.

“It’s really nice out here, I love it out here. It is high level competition,” said one AAU Basketball Super Showcase attendee. He continued saying, “I think that all you all out there should just really try it, because it’s amazing and I love it."

For many years the AAU Basketball National Championships and AAU Basketball Super Showcase have been a hotbed for elite athletes. Notable past competitors include two-time NBA Champion and two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), as well as other NBA Champions Dwyane Wade (Chicago Bulls) and Kyrie Irving (Cleveland Cavaliers).

Events of this magnitude are sure to bring a certain level of attention.

“I choose the AAU Basketball National Championships and AAU Basketball Super Showcase over other tournaments because of the exposure. There’s a bunch of college coaches out here to see who can play.”

The AAU Basketball National Championships and the AAU Basketball Super Showcase are NCAA certified events and there were around 400 coaches in attendance to scout athletes.

Select Championship games were aired live on, from ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, which has become the worldwide leader in ESPN3 content production.
