AAU Grand Nationals to Premiere "Xtreme Baseball"

ORLANDO, FLA (June 16, 2017) - This upcoming week, AAU will host its annual AAU Grand Nationals. This week-long event will begin tomorrow Saturday June 17th at 8 p.m. with the opening ceremonies. Play will begin the following day on the 18th and will continue through the 24th at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort.

This event will feature 1,100 players, ages 9-14, on 73 teams. These teams represent 12 different states as well as Puerto Rico. The teams will be separated into two divisions, Diamond and Gold.

For the first time, the AAU Grand Nationals will be premiering a new exhibition style of play called “Xtreme Baseball” in the 9U & 10U age groups. These select games will be only three innings long and take place on one day of the event to be determined.

These select games will be scored differently than traditional baseball games. Players will receive points for individual accomplishments such as one point for a single, two points for a double and so on.

Players will also receive points for pitching and defensive plays. Such as one point for catching a fly ball and two points for striking out a batter looking.

These individual points will be added to the team’s overall score.

AAU and its players are excited to showcase “Xtreme Baseball” and bring a new twist to America’s Pastime.
