AAU TRACK & FIELD PARTNERS WITH THE PERFECT METHOD

(From left to right: AAU Track and Field Chair Coach O, Olympic icon Carl Lewis and AAU President/CEO Dr. Roger J. Goudy

On Tuesday, May 9th, the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and Carl Lewis! The Perfect Method (TPM) will announce an exciting three-year agreement designed to solve an urgent problem in youth athletics today. The two entities believe that by leveraging their respective brands together, they will optimize the opportunity to offer coaches and young athletes the tools to maximize performance and reach their athletic potential.

The relationship will debut nationwide and expand on a global level. The collaboration will begin immediately and the organizations will be announcing programs and a series of co-branded events for the 2017 calendar year, including training clinics for coaches and athletes.

The Perfect Method is a step-by-step training program established by Carl Lewis, five-time USA Track & Field Olympian, and winner of ten Olympic medals, nine of them Gold. He is heralded as one of the greatest athletes in the history of modern sport, named Sportsman of the Century by the International Olympic Committee.

Lewis was raised as an AAU athlete and credits the organization for helping him develop as a young athlete. An activist for family, youth, education, wellness and fitness, Lewis brings his international celebrity to attract awareness to these issues. He is also serving as an assistant coach at the University of Houston, his alma mater.

"I'm excited about our partnership with the AAU. I started sports with an AAU Club that my mother had started," Lewis commented. He added, "I look forward to helping these young coaches and families become the best that they can be. Life comes full circle."

CALEB HYMANS GETS ANOTHER WORLD RECORD

Caleb Hymans with his medal from the Fairfax Run for the Children 8K last Saturday. The medal was nice but even better is that he set another world record for 12 year-olds running the 8K. His time was 28:58.

This isn't Caleb's first WR though, he now holds the 10k record for 11 and 12-year olds and the 8k record for 12 year olds.

We first met Caleb last year at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Houston, after his performance in the 3000-meter run.

Then, at AAU XC Nationals he won the 11-12 boys race and at USATF Cross County Nationals Caleb was third in the 11-12 age group (where three 11 year-olds went 1-2-3 in the 11-12 age group).

During AAU Indoor Nationals Caleb won the 3000m and won the 1500m with his second fastest time ever in 4:48.04 (his only faster time was at AAU outdoor nationals last summer, a 4:42.69).

Looking forward to seeing what Caleb will do this year.

AAU TRACK & FIELD DAY

Amateur Athletic Union Announces June 1st as Inaugural National AAU Track and Field Day

Inaugural celebration to recognize the beginning of district championship season for more than 50,000 AAU Track and Field athletes

More than 50,000 track and field athletes across the country begin their road to AAU Junior Olympic Games with the start of district championship season on June 1 every year. As such, the AAU will begin recognizing that date as National AAU Track and Field Day with the inaugural celebration taking place this June 1, 2017.

"More than anything, National AAU Track and Field Day gives us an opportunity to stop and recognize all of our incredible athletes academic and athletic achievements," said Charles Oliver, AAU Track & Field National Chair. "It also allows us to say thanks to moms, dads, grandparents, coaches, teachers, sponsors, and the like."

Athletes across the nation will show their AAU pride by dawning their favorite AAU gear. Members will have an opportunity to earn special giveaways through contests held via social media using the hashtag #AAUTrackDay. The winners will also receive a special recognition at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Detroit, Michigan should they be in attendance.

"It's said that 'it takes a village to raise a child'," said Oliver. "We want everyone to wear their favorite AAU gear on June 1 to show how many people are a part of the 'AAU village' and that we are all proud of our involvement within the organization."

Mark your calendars now and join us for the Inaugural National AAU Track and Field Day on June 1, 2017.
