Longtime AAU Volunteer Passes

Longtime AAU Volunteer Passes

Longtime AAU volunteer Jeff Hammer passed away suddenly.  A resident of Huntington, NY, Jeff passed away on April 6th at 68 years of age.

An AAU Board of Directors member, Jeff held numerous positions within the AAU throughout the years most recently as AAU Finance Chair.  He held positions as National Treasurer, officer in the NY-Metropolitan AAU District as Treasurer (1987 – Present), and on the national Registration, Insurance Committee and Investment Committees respectively. Also, he worked with many AAU sports during his time with AAU.

Professionally, Jeff worked for Morgan Stanley as a VP 1976-2006 and in the Peace Corp from 1972-1975.

Jeff had a love of sailing and raced competitively in the Long Island area.  His Tartan 10 Dreadlocks was a fixture on the western Long Island Sound PHRF racing circuit and a perennial trophy winner at the windy Manhasset Bay Fall Series. Dreadlocks’ faded blue gelcoat, makeshift rigging, and Jamaican battle flag reflected Hammer’s laid back style, but he always made sure he had new sails and a fast bottom.

Memorial Services will be held:

Tuesday April 12, 2016

United Methodist Church of Huntington Cold Spring Harbor
180 West Neck Road
Huntington, NY 11743

Service will begin at 4:00pm followed by a pot luck reception in the Church’s fellowship hall.
Family friendly service and children welcome.

If you would like to contribute a dish, please drop it off at the church anytime on the 12th.  In lieu of flowers, we invite you to bring a spring plant such as tulips as they were Jeff’s favorite; or make a donation on his behalf to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) at umcor.org.

A celebration of his life will be held in May at a local yacht club.
