Lake Buena Vista, FL-- The AAU Volleyball department received official word today that they've made the Guinness Book of World Records for the 2012 AAU Girls Junior National Volleyball Championships this past June at the Orange County Convention Center and ESPN Wide World of Sports.
The tournament as a whole consisted of over 1,700 teams from 10u through 18u participating in one of three divisions: open, club or classic. In total, the 2012 AAU Girls Junior National Volleyball Championships brought in over 22,000 participants to the Orlando area.
It was the 16u Club Division, with a total of 2,631 participants, that landed AAU Volleyball into the record books. Guinness Records won't recognize a tournament with multiple age divisions as one tournament. They look at each individual age group and division as a separate tournament. In order to be considered for a Guinness Record, AAU Volleyball had to find the specific age group and division that contained more participants than any other single-age division volleyball tournament.
AAU Volleyball would like to thank all the athletes, coaches, parents and volunteers that made this possible. We're hoping for even bigger things in 2013!
