Lake Buena Vista, FL--Â This past October, 46 of the nation's top prospects for the Class of 2016 were invited to the USA Basketball U16 Developmental Training weekend-- 40 of which are AAU Basketball members.
On October 6-7, all invited guests convened at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO for two day of skill breakdown, scrimmages and to compete for a U16 national team spot.
One rising star invited that weekend was AAU Basketball member Malik Monk. Monk plays for Arkansas Wings Elite, an elite AAU Basketball club based in Maumelle, AR. He comes from a very athletic family. His brother, Marcus, played basketball at the University of Arkansas and now plays in Europe. His cousin, Rashad Madden, is a current member of the Razorback basketball team.
Only a freshman, Monk is already garnering attention. He took 4th place with the U16 Wings team and then won the AAU National Championship with the U17's a week later. According to future150.com, Monk is ranked 22nd in the Class of 2016 and No. 4 at point guard.
The official USA U16 National Team roster will be announced in Spring 2013, prior to the June training camp.
