AAU SCHOLASTIC DUALS AT DISNEY COME TO A CLOSE

2017-06-17

Another great AAU Scholastic National Duals has come to a close.

ORLANDO, Fla (June 17, 2017) -This past week, the AAU hosted its annual AAU Wrestling Scholastic Duals a staple in Orlando for close to 20 years. This event was held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports at The Walt Disney World Resort.

Congratulations to all the teams that placed in the four different divisions as well as the Champions Rhino Grey (PA) in Community 1, York Town (VA) in Community 2, Young Guns Black (PA) the All-Star Division and Young Guns Blue (PA) in the Developmental Division.

The AAU looks forward to the Scholastic Duals every year as does its wrestlers. Trent Hilday, winner of the Outstanding Wrestler Award and a member of the All-Star Division Champions Young Guns Black said, “I had a lot of fun it was a great time. You know this is the kind of stuff you live for and these are the best memories you can make in wrestling. When I won states this year it definitely impacted my life in a great way and AAU was definitely a part of that. You know they (AAU) helped me get there so I appreciate that.” Watch more of the interview with Trent Hilday.

Coaches also love the AAU Scholastic Duals because it gives wrestlers a chance to wrestle and improve their skills during the offseason. J. Colby Robinson, coach of the STL Knuckleheads said, “The best part about AAU Wrestling is that it gives kids the opportunity to wrestle during the summer. The more mat time that these kids can get, the better they are going to be in the season.

There were also a number of female wrestlers at the Scholastic Duals. Shawnylle Sutton is excited about the opportunity the AAU Scholastic Duals provides to her and other female wrestlers, “You get more experience and you go out here against these guys and it’s a lot harder but it makes you a lot better when you go back to wrestling girls.” She continued saying “I think more girls should wrestle because it gives you a sense of identity and confidence to be a female wrestler. Thanks again to all the teams who came out and competed. We can’t wait to see you next year!
